HELPFUL HINTS FOR OUR STORAGE CUSTOMERS

  • Plan your storage space. Place those items that you may need often in the front. Allow for walk-ways
  • Make an inventory of your items, get photos & serial numbers, and keep it in a safe place or in a safe deposit box.
  • You may wish to place your items on pallets to guard against dampness. Any concrete floor may become damp.
  • Do not store anything that is COMBUSTIBLE ( i.e. gasoline , solvents. paint thinner, paints, etc.)
  • Use uniform size boxes or plastic bins for easy stacking. Be sure your boxes are strong enough to hold 25 to 30 lbs. Do not put too much weight in each box or bin, especially books and paper.
  • List contents of boxes on all four sides, number your boxes and seal with tape.
  • Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper in sturdy boxes, and stacked on top.
  • Pictures & mirrors should be wrapped in bubble wrap & cardboard and stacked on end.
  • Furniture drawers can be used for storing pictures, knick-knacks, silverware, small items, etc. wrap them in towels, tablecloths or blankets to prevent breakage.
  • Large appliances make good cases for linens and towels. Use mothballs on clothes.
  • Shovels, rakes and hoses can be stored in empty trash cans. Stack empty cans together.
  • Remove table legs to save space, and wear and tear on legs.
  • Sofas and love seats can be stored on end to save space. Always place a protective cover under the item, wrap cushions in plastic and stack on top, use furniture storage bags. Curtain rods can be tied together in a bundle and laid flat.
  • Cover stuffed furniture with blankets to protect against dust.
  • If standing mattresses on their side prop them up straight, and separate with headboard and upright side rails to maintain straightness.
  • Rent the smallest size you need and pack it full, except for walkways in larger units.
  • Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture. Loosely cover with blankets. If sealed include scented dryer sheets for freshness. Tuck into linens also.
  • Use a good quality lock on your door. Remember your key location.
  • To prevent bug and rodent infestation no food items should be stored, use mothballs.
  • Put TV’s and electronics on top of heavy pieces, like dressers, at the rear of your unit, and cover for protection.
